PLOT SUMMARY
Within this classic picture book Wanda Gag tells a story about a very lonely old man and woman. The old woman tells the man that the only way to alleviate their loneliness is to find a cat. The old man leaves to find his wife a cat. The old man finds what he is looking for and more, so much more that he cannot decide which one is the best cat so he takes them all. In the end it all works out, but how do you think his wife felt about the “Millions of Cats” he brings back?
CRITICAL ANALYSIS
Gag’s story is very straight forward. There are no twists and turns to the plot and it is a very easy read for a child sense it contains repetitive, rhyming words. The illustrations are also simplistic. The pictures are drawn in black and white and for the most part are simply accents to the story. However, for the story I think that the art is just right to convey the lightheartedness of the story.
